The Vanderlip Cottage in Portuguese Bend, the oldest house in Palos Verdes, was renovated and expanded with a contemporary floor to be the owner's private residence. Care was taken to reflect the house's history while updating throughout,

The house was in poor condition and lacking an adequate foundation. The house was supported by jacks as the crawl space was excavated by hand to allow for the construction of a new foundation.
